Broward county mayor Dale Holness and Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis hosted a joint news conference on Tuesday to announce the reopening of beaches, hotels, gyms, other businesses and enforcement that will be in place to keep residents and visitors safe.

At the beach walking, jogging, swimming and exercising will be allowed, but sunbathing will not be.

Guidelines involving face masks and social distancing will still be in place. Mayor Trantalis said that if these guidelines are not followed, it could lead to roll backs and the slowing of reopening.

Trantalis also noted that these openings will hopefully begin the recovery of the economy and help those businesses that have suffered during COVID-19.

Representatives from the Broawrd County Sheriff's Office also asked that residents continue to comply with these new guidelines in order to avoid a spike in new cases. Mayor Holness said that failure to comply with these can result in fines or arrest.
