Miami usually never sleeps especially on the weekend. However, with a statewide curfew in place, people have no choice but to get creative. Residents in Miami have taken to their balconies to blast their favorite tunes, sing karaoke, and connect during this time of social distancing.
This past weekend, Edgewater resident Jared Shaw helped organize their own music fest in the sky.
“As an artist, obviously I’m in the entertainment industry. I reached out to a couple of people and was able to secure DJ Tony Merende and he really put on a great show,” said Shaw.
It’s a trend that’s setting around the world. This viral video from Spain has over five million views, showing a DJ on his balcony using a fog machine. In Italy, residents of apartment buildings are shown playing instruments.
With just about every concert canceled due to COVID-19, artists took to social media platforms to live stream concerts from their homes.
Coldplay Frontman Chris Martin kick-started the trend on March 16th, when he launched a new virtual concert series dubbed “Together at Home” in partnership with the World Health Organization and Global Citizen.
Since then, plenty of other artists have followed suit and shared their own mini concert videos. John legend, Jennifer Hudson, Shawn Mendes, and Camila Cabello are just a few of the big names.
The best part of these gigs? They’re totally free to watch and you have a front-row seat from the comfort of your couch.
