Hundreds of people came out to Coral Reef Park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Palmetto Bay to support the fight against skin cancer.

This is the S-O-S Melanoma Awareness Walk, hosted by Miggy’s Gift which is a non-profit organization founded by Marilu Chavez.

She lost her son Stephen in 2017, at the age of 29 cancer had taken her son’s life.

"I'm a mother with a broken heart, so I feel like my son should be here today and we do this in his memory. And, we do this to avoid another family going through this horrible tragedy. Too many young people are dying of skin cancer and it's a preventable cancer. I've formed a revolution, I feel like I've declared war on skin cancer and these are my warriors, everyone that's here. So, it's going to end here. Don't mess with my children because you'll hear from me, and that's what I'm doing," said Chavez.

Now through Miggy’s Gift, named after her son’s gamer tag, Mrs.Chavez donates this special package to sick kids, a book titled "Mighty Miggy" about a boy who gets sick and gets a special hospital gown from a super dog! The gift package includes a plush super dog and a specially designed super hero hospital gown.

"We realized after his [Stephen] passing how dedicated he was to helping others. So, we do this in his honor, in his name. It has to go on, his legacy must go on," added Chavez.
