Scam artists are using the Coronavirus as a way to take advantage of seniors.
The health and human services office says there's been an uptick in marketing schemes. Scammers are doing things like offering "Senior care packages", which claim to have covid-19 tests, hand sanitizer, and a vaccine. Which does not yet exist.
Investigators say it's all a trick to get personal information that can be used to bill federal and state health programs.
United States attorney Zachary Terwilliger released a statement urging Americans, especially those at risk , to avoid these scams by following some of these important steps.
Ignore offers for a COVID-19 vaccine, cure, or treatment. Remember, if there is a medical breakthrough, you won’t hear about it for the first time through an email or online ad.
